Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield is developing one of the biggest and most innovative mixed-use quarters in Europe with the Southern Überseequartier in Hamburg. The ambitious project with 14 single buildings and an area of 419,000 m², consisting of usages like living, offices, retail, entertainment and a cruise terminal, is proceeding on schedule. All building applications have been handed in. In addition, the excavation of the building pit, the soil of which is being dispatched by water in order to relieve congestion on the streets in HafenCity, and the pile foundation are going according to plan. The above-ground construction is scheduled to begin in the second half-year of 2018. On 29th of August 2018, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield announced the opening end of 2022.

With the aspiration to develop a future-oriented project for Hamburg and all Hamburgers, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has the objective to create “better places”. This includes forwardthinking mobility concepts, cooperation with local start-ups and a comprehensive integration of the business activities in the local community. Furthermore, the project team is continuously optimising the offer of experiences in the quarter in order to fulfil the needs and wants of the future visitors and guests in the best possible way, and to create a vivid place full of variety and experiences.

With the acquisition of Westfield in July 2018, the group combined two of the strongest and most respected names in the real estate industry to build on their legacies. In this way, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has significantly extended its worldwide network of experts as well as its unprecedented know-how and unlocked new and promising potentials and opportunities, especially with regard to the project development of Southern Überseequartier. The group provides a unique platform for retailers as well as brand events and offers an unparalleled experience for customers and future customers with its flagship destinations and mixed-use quarters.

Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield has intensively analysed to what extent concepts of the new portfolio could be integrated in Southern Überseequartier and will therefore include an upgraded leisure and Food & Beverage and residential components. This upgrade will meet the self-imposed high demands related to the city quarter and the sustainability strategy.
